Greater Cairo contains Egypt’s most famous Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum, as well as numerous additional uniquely Egyptian experiences like the 900-year old Khan el Khalili souk, Cairo’s imposing Citadel fortress, various medieval grand mosques, historic Coptic Christian churches, and modern Egypt’s bustling food and culture scene.
Egypt Elite’s arrivals director will meet you inside of the airport pre-immigration in order to help you smoothly clear immigration and customs and collect your checked luggage. Then, he’ll walk you outside to your waiting car and driver where another Egypt Elite staff member will join you for the ride to your hotel. On arrival at the hotel, we’ll walk you inside and ensure that you’re quickly checked in and that you have everything you need to settle in and relax.
We’ll meet you again in the lobby of your hotel on your first morning to introduce you to the rest of our team, including your Cairo-based Egypt Elite tour guide and touring assistant. We’ll then all strike out together across Cairo for the Giza Plateau where we’ll explore the 4500-year-old Pyramids of Giza. You’ll skip the lines – and the entire main public entrance – and enter instead through the private VIP Center where you’ll be greeted with beverages and light catering and then be provided with a private golf cart and driver who will take you around the plateau with your guide for the next several hours at your own pace, away from the regular hop-on hop-off busses which the general public are now required to use at the site. You’ll then finish off this unforgettable first day with yet another iconic monument that has been watching over Giza for 4400 years – the GreatSphinx.
Even older and more unique pyramids remain standing out in the desert to the south of the famous ones at Giza, and on this day we’ll take you out there to explore these rarely visited sites, beginning with the oldest pyramid in Eygpt – the iconic Step Pyramid of Djoser at Sakkara. While at Sakkara, we’ll also visit a few other unique sites here, such as Pyramid of Unas with it’s 3-D interior wall reliefs and the mind-blowing underground Serapeum. We’ll then continue a little further south of explore the Red Pyramid and the Bent Pyramid at Dashur
In the morning, we’ll head back out to the Giza Plateau again where the spectacular new “GEM” of Egypt is also located. When we arrive at the new Grand Egyptian Museum, your guide can spend as much time with you as you like exploring this vast complex’s new galleries, halls, displays, and exhibits – some of which have never before been available for public viewing, including the entire 5000-piece tomb contents collection of the famous boy pharaoh King Tutankhamun.
We’ll start this day with a visit to Cairo’s historic Coptic Christian Quarter, which houses the 7th-century “Hanging Church” and the 4th-century Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus built over the cave where the Holy Family sought shelter in Egypt after fleeing the massacre of King Herod. We’ll also take you to this medieval fortress, home to the Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali as well as sweeping panoramic views of Cairo. And we’ll finish the day off together with a leisurely stroll through the largest, oldest, and most active authentic market in the Middle East.
At your pre-designated departure time, your car and driver will be waiting in the pickup area in front of your hotel to pick you up and take you to the international departures terminal at Cairo International Airport.
